Years in Review: The History of Foothill

In the Beginning...

In 1994, the city of Henderson became the fastest growing city in the US. Families where coming from the Vegas Valley and other areas of the nation to experience the diversity and community values that this city has to offer. No one knew how popular Henderson would become and with this growth came new neighborhoods, parks, libraries and schools.

The population of the Henderson's high schools did not come into critical consideration until the late 90's when students began to see that their halls, classrooms and lunchroom were getting over crowded. It was then decided that another high school was needed to ease the burden of these other schools. Thus, Foothill High School was born.

The names of Foothill High School came about when the administration took this important decision to the entering freshman class and had them decide the name of this new school. The class of 2003 earned this privilege by being the first class that would be graduating from Foothill High School that has attended all four years. Not only did they come up with Foothill as a great school name, but they were able to choose the mascot, a peregrine falcon. The students here at Foothill High School are very proud to be Falcons. We represent our spirit with flying colors of navy blue, columbian blue, and gold.

The Foothill campus opened its doors August 23rd of 1999, with incoming freshman joining us from Burkholder Middle School and transferring sophomores and juniors joining us from Basic, Silverado, and Green Valley High School. The attendance reached to 1268. The Foothill students and faculty represent a diverse population of ethnic backgrounds and experiences. The class of 2001 will be the first graduating class of seniors from Foothill High School.

But aside from being a new high school to Clark County, Foothill decided to kick off the new millennium by interacting with the Community College of Southern Nevada. CCSN, working with the Foothill Falcons, has given the students many opportunities to get a flying head start on their college education.

Of course, being its first year, Foothill High School was a new experience for every student in attendance. People came from many different schools in the district to be a part of the new Falcon legacy. Because these have been Foothill's beginning years, there will be many traditions made as the years progress that will not only define who we are and what "Falcon Pride" is, but these traditions will pave the way for other students to follow in the future.
